Cheap Hotels in London

Looking for cheap hotels in London? London, England, is a popular vacation spot at any time of year. No matter when you’d like to travel, there’s something to see and do there. Unfortunately, because London is such a popular city, it isn’t cheap to visit there. Even the Holiday Inn London can be very pricey. One of the best ways to circumvent this and get to see London on the cheap is by looking for last minute vacation deals on hotels and airfare.

A lot of people wonder why booking last minute vacations can end up being such a time and money saver, and to really understand why it’s important to see how the airline and hospitality industries work. It’s easy to find cheap hotels in London England, even if you don’t want to resort to staying in hostels in London, if you’re willing to take the chance of waiting to book your stay. The reason behind this is simple- hotel owners have the same expenses, regardless of who is staying there. If their hotel is empty, it costs them just as much to run as when it is full. If a hotel owner is coming up on a certain date, and they don’t have as many bookings as they’d like, it’s very common for them to temporarily lower their prices on their rooms, and offer them on sites like Expedia, Ibis Hotels, or Travelocity. This creates a win-win situation. The hotel owners get people to fill their empty rooms, and travelers get cheap hotels London City hotel owners wouldn’t otherwise advertise.

The same thing that can help you find cheap hotels London airport can help you find cheap flights. Much like hotels, planes cost just as much to operate whether they are full or empty. Many of these cheap flights are on planes that have a couple of stopovers, or that depart very early in the morning or late at night. By discounting airfare to help get more people into their seats when a plane is running the risk of flying with empty spots, airlines help keep their costs covered, and help travelers afford their transportation expenses more easily.

It doesn’t matter whether you’re looking for cheap flights, hotels, London shows, or what ever you need for your holidays. Waiting to book last minute vacations makes a lot of sense. The only trick to finding really cheap hotels in London is being flexible. If you want to stay at a suite in the middle of London, you might have a hard time finding a hotel that can accommodate your needs. However, if you’re willing to take a regular room on the outskirts of town, then you can find cheap hotels in London with absolutely no problem at all.

Booking a last minute vacation doesn’t mean you’re being stuck with everyone else’s leftovers. Hotels and flights very often have empty spaces available, for a wide variety of reasons. As long as you’re willing to be flexible with your travel arrangements and your hotel stay, you can have a five-star vacation for a two-star price.

Needless to say the choice of hotels in London will greatly influence your overall last minute vacations costs. One thing you need to keep in mind while looking for cheap hotels in London is that you would definitely want to choose your cheap hotel in London close to any underground station in London (aka the “tube”). With the close proximity to the tube station, you will have an easy access to all London attractions. London has one of the most developed subway systems in the world, and many stations and lines are very well connected, so will have no problem getting from one part of the city to another. In fact, in many situations, there will two or three alternative routes to your destination. At times, it would be difficult to choose which one would be a better choice – that you’d only know with experience.

Many travelers are trying to find a hotel as close to the city centre as possible. While is it’s a great strategy, I would not hesitate to consider hotels right outside the formal center of London. For instance, I once stayed in a hotel in the Southern part of London, which was only 15 minute ride on the tube to Piccadilly. The hotel was close to the Underground station, just a two minute walk, but, unlike many other central London hotels, located in old Victorian buildings, this one had an elevator, and all the rooms had a/c.

So, while it would be nice to stay right in the heart of the city, remember that the prices will be higher, and the buildings will be older. Another thing that you should consider while choosing your cheap hotel in London is the hotel’s proximity to your airport. For instance, if you are flying in and out of Heathrow, then it would make sense to choose a hotel near Paddington. Or, if you are traveling from London to Europe via EuroStar, then you might want to pick up a hotel near King’s Cross St. Pancras.

There are a lot of hotels to choose from, so do your research and choose the one that suits you best. While it would make sense to book your hotel in advance, it doesn’t mean you would get the best possible price. I found over the years that negotiating your last minute hotel deal, often resulted in better prices than those I would get when booking in advance. This is because hotel owners may get desperate when the hotel is not fully booked, so they would be willing to give you up to 50% off  of the published prices. However, in general, traveling during summer months will always be more expensive than travelling during fall or spring season.

If you are really trying to save money and find the cheapest hotel in London, and you are young and flexible with your needs, then why not to consider booking a hostel in London? There are numerous hostels in London, with dormitory and private-style rooms. Of course, you won’t get all the perks of a hotel, but you will save enough money that you can spend on sightseeing and entertainment. Plus, you will get to meet people like yourself, and, possibly, make friends.

To sum it up: finding best rates for hotel accommodation in London depends on the time of the year, preferred location, your personal needs and budget. There is more than a thousand hotels in London, some of them small little B&B family-run hotels, others are big international chain hotels, and a little bit of everything in between.

I have put together a small list of cheap hotels in London located in these two neighborhoods in London: King’s Cross/St. Pancras/Bloomsbury  and Paddington areas. The first location would be most convenience for those of you who want to find a cheap hotel in London near St. Pancras station as this where the EuroStar trains arrive from Europe, and the proximity to the Paddington station is most convenient for those of you who want to be close to the Heathrow Express airport service.

This list of cheap hotels in London is based on the Trip Advisor actual users’ reviews. I have selected only those hotels that received at least a 4 star rating (out of 5). The list gives you a snapshot of user reviews, breaking it down to a number of “good”, “average” and “bad” reviews for each hotels.

I suggest you look at the total number of reviews and then try to figure out how many of them are actually positive reviews. I would consider any hotel that gets at least 70% of positive reviews. For instance,  Jesmond Dene Hotel in King’s Cross neighborhood ranks number 21 in B&B category at Trip Advisor, and has a total 842 reviews, which is really a lot, even for Trip Advisor. However, the most astonishing thing is that it got 751 excellent or very good reviews, which is 90% of all reviews, and only 3% of reviewers gave it a bad review. Now, you should understand there’s no hotel without bad reviews, every single hotel in London has its share of bad reviews, some hotels more than others. When choosing cheap hotels in London, make sure it’s close to an underground station, preferably, with a direct line to the railway station that you will be leaving from for the airport. You don’t want to spend too much time on the tube, changing lines, carrying your luggage, and trying to get on your express train to Gatwick or Heathrow.

After you have done your research, you’ll find out that there are cheap hotels in London assembled in certain areas of the city.  For example Kensington boasts a wide choice of budget “cheap” hotels near historic central London. Other popular neighborhoods, where travelers are trying to find cheap hotels in London are hotels in London West End, hotels near London Eye, Hotels near Hyde Park, South Kensington Hotels, or even, hotels near Buckingham Palace.
