Where to Stay in Puerto Rico:

The area around San Juan offers the largest concentration of huge upscale resorts particularly along its northeastern coast. If you stay there, you will also get an easy access to the island’s famed nightlife, dining options, and great shopping. The southern coast offers just a few resorts, while the western Rincon region has the second largest accumulation of popular resorts. Rincon is also a great surfing destination. You’ll find quite a few smaller inns everywhere around the island, including some near the popular El Yunque. The best beaches are located in the Culebra and Vieques regions, so head there if you are after a perfect beach. These are also the least developed areas.

San Juan’s beaches are considered decent but not the best in Puerto Rico, however, most of the deluxe resorts and swanky restaurants are located there. The majority of these venues are spread along Isla Verde and Condado beaches.

You can find more upscale resorts in other parts of the island, but keep in mind that the food will be expensive and there will be just a few close by off-resort restaurants that could satisfy your gourmet soul.

As of this writing, I have to admit, there is no such thing as Puerto Rico All Inclusive Resorts. The Copamarina Beach Resort used to be advertised as an all inclusive, but, in reality,  it is rather a  “full-service” resort that offers 4 meal plans, two of which include breakfast, lunch and dinner, with the  ”Luxury” option offerring house wine by the glass.  With some water sports thrown into the mix, this is the closest you can get to all-inclusive in Puerto Rico.

While Melia brand is famous for its all inclusive options elsewhere in the Caribbean, the  Gran Melia Golf Resort Puerto Rico doesn’t offer an all inclusive plan any more. They do have breakfast included into the rates, though.

On a general note, Puerto Rico might not be the best place to look for All Inclusive resorts. If you are concerned about meals, try to choose a resort that has onsite restaurants and, at least, a few nearby restaurants just in case you don’t like the food at the hotel. Many resorts do have breakfast included into the rates, and some offer breakfast and dinner, or even 3 meals a day (spirits and tip not included), depending on the season and availability. Just remember that none of the resorts in Puerto Rico offer the all inclusive concept in a sense we are accustomed to.

More About Puerto Rico:

Cheap Vacation Packages

Many travelers admit that Puerto Rico is one of the best vacation destinations in the Caribbean, offering anything from chic capital resorts to modest small hotels in the rural part of the island. Located approximately 1,000 miles to the south of Florida, Puerto Rico is seated in the middle of the US Virgin Islands and the Dominican Republic, and is the smallest of the Greater Antilles islands.  The main island is also flanked by three small islands of Mona, Culebra, and Vieques.

This is truly a fascinating island with lots of historic places to explore along with quiet and serene landscapes of the beautiful countryside. Often called “the Continent of Puerto Rico,” the island offers its numerous visitors quite a diverse experience. Choose a luxurious beachfront resort and relax in the atmosphere of lavishness and extravagance, or forget about your air-conditioned room and explore the pastoral landscapes of the rural areas of the island. What are you really looking for? Is it the glittery casinos, exhilarating nightlife, fabulous restaurants, magnificent hotels and historic sights of the bustling capital of San Juan? Or, is it yellow-sand beaches with quiet restaurants, thriving rainforests, and Spanish colonial settlements? You pick!

A unique mixture of mountains, rainforests, and trade winds create several distinct

climate zones on the island. The eastern part of the island is covered with the fertile steamy jungle that spreads to the mountain picks. Explore El Yunque, a unique mountain range covered with subtropical rainforest, where one can observe a variety of plants that had to adapt to the plentiful amount of rain and winds. The dwarf or “elfin” forest located near the top of the mountain is particularly fascinating with its stunted and twisted trunks, creating a picture of serenity and fairytale beauty. You will be delighted to find more than 200 types of tropical trees and ferns there, if you hike along the popular walking or hiking trails leading you through the forest to the magnificent cascade of waterfalls. The landscape of the northern and western parts of the island is marked by short grass and cacti.

San Juan offers great beaches for sunbathing and crystal clear turquoise waters for any kind of motorized or non-motorized water sports, including snorkeling and swimming. The beaches of Puerto Rico are stretched along the shoreline for more than 270 miles featuring private sandy coves and scattered swaying palm trees. You will have no difficulty finding numerous trenches, sea walls, caves, and abundant coral reefs for that unique scuba diving experience. In addition, sailing, fishing, and boat trips are offered throughout the island.
